Fred Donald McLaughlin, 82 died Friday, January 24, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Raymond Washington. Fred was born October 18, 1931 in Byron, Michigan to Almus and Rose (Simmons) McLaughlin. Memorial services will be held in Michigan at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond. " He resided in Byron for most of his life. He relocated to Raymond after the death of his second wife in 2012. He was employed at the Byron Garage before going to Simplicity Engineering where he worked as a millwright. As a millwright he traveled through out the United States, Canada, and even to Chile in South America. Fred worked with Rex Roto Corporation prior to retirement; after retirement he took a job doing building and ground maintenance at Hidden Springs Retreat Center in Howell, Michigan. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed traveling and wood working, and was always willing to help out family, friend, or stranger in need. He is survived by a daughter Kate (Dewey) Adair of Raymond, a sister Rachel Hoeft of Michigan, several sisters and brothers-in-law; four grandchildren, Charity Coffey (Matt) Gribbin of Africa, Aaron Coffey of Port Orchard, Washington, Faith Coffey of Louisville, Kentucky, Joy (Ryan) Klingeman of Zeeland, Michigan; step grandsons, Dustin and Dillon Adair of Raymond; four great grandchildren, Kalin, Isabelle, Ava and Kaya and many nieces and nephews. Fred was also survived by his friendly senior companions, Leonard Wisner and Carol Vaughn. Dustin Adair and Sara Deufel helped to care for Fred as his health declined over the past year. Fred served two years in the Army, stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky. He had been a member of the Mason\\'s and served as a Grand Mason. He was an active member of both the Methodist Church in Byron Michigan, and also at Hidden Springs Retreat Center in Howell Michigan. Fred was preceded in death four brothers, two sisters and by his wife Helen \\\Joan\\\" Pratt in 2001; he later married Ruth McGill who died in 2012.
