Donald Roy Koplitz, a longtime South Bend resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, WA. He was 90. Don was born December 26, 1927 in Everett, WA to Adolph and Marjorie (O’Neil) Koplitz.
Don was a graduate of Marysville High School where he participated in baseball, basketball and football. He went on to attend Everett Community College where he continued his love of baseball. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1951. He married Bertha Handeland June 12, 1954, and they moved to Willapa Harbor in 1962.
He held many titles with several different school districts that included educator, principal and coach for Elma Junior High, Skykomish High School, and South Bend High School.
Don was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, tending to his dahlia garden, and attending sporting events where he would volunteer at times.
