Donald B. Furfiord, a lifelong South Bend resident went home to be with Our Lord and Savior Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Willapa Harbor Hospital; he was 89. Don was born March 19, 1927 in South Bend to Peder and Jondine Nilsen. He graduated from South Bend High School with the class of 1947. Don went on to marry Janet Louderback in South Bend May 21, 1955. She survives him at the family home. Together they had four children, a son Stan (Brenda) Furfiord of Everett, WA and three daughters Valerie (Pat) Chestnut of Kona, Hawaii, Melody (Don) Sheldon of Roseburg, OR and Laurie (Shawn) Ramsey of Poulsbo, WA. Also surviving Don are 7 grandchildren, Tricia (Gregg) Swanson of Shelton, WA, Jeanna (Dan) Rheinberger of Lake Stevens, WA, Amy Furfiord of Lynnwood, WA, Donny (Melana) Sheldon of Guam, Katelyn (William) Wright of Oakland, OR, Kyle Ramsey of Poulsbo, WA and Katie Ramsey also of Poulsbo; as well as 3 great grandchildren and close friends Jim and Eloise Taylor of Raymond. Don was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Nels, Bjarne, Roy and Floyd. Don worked for several crab canneries, he held a foreman position at one time; he was also employed as a gill-netter and most recently was grounds and building supervisor for the Pacific County Courthouse. In his free time, Don enjoyed woodworking, clam digging, and volunteering at the Cannon Beach Conference Center; he especially loved his time playing checkers. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Raymond, along with his wife Janet. He had traveled four times to Norway, the homeland of his parents and one trip to Svalbard. Don spoke both Norwegian and English. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Raymond First Baptist Church where all are welcomed to attend, a luncheon will follow.
