Charles Spoor

Charles E. Spoor, a longtime South Bend resident, died Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Capital Medical Center in Olympia; he was 81. Chuck was born March 1, 1937 in Coudersport, PA to Curtis and Leota (Boats) Spoor. He was a 1956 graduate of Salamanca High School at Salamanca, NY. After graduating, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as Radar Technician in the 759th, 682nd, and 931st Air Craft Control and Warning Squadrons from 1956-1960. From 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1964, he was part of the 635th Radar Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron out of the Naselle Air Force Station, leaving the service with the rank of Technical Sergeant E-6. After Chuck’s discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he was employed by Weyerhaeuser, then went on to Olympic Hardwood in 1973, until working for Mayr Brothers in Hoquiam, until his retirement in 1994. He served on the South Bend School Board for 20 years, as a Board Member and Board Chairman. Chuck married Peggy Apperson, the love of his life, on March 29, 1958 in Raymond. Together, they attended the former Assembly of God Church (Cross Roads) in Raymond for many years. Chuck enjoyed camping, and fishing, and treasured spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Peggy of South Bend, his four sons, Larry (Tammy) Spoor of South Bend, Gary (Vicki) Spoor of Raymond, Rod (Sharon) Spoor of Raymond and Chuck (Mindy) Spoor of South Bend, his daughter Charlene (Ron) Hamlin of Lacey and his sister Leeann of York, PA. Chuck is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He loved and treasured his family beyond words. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Mike Spoor, his sister Ada Lou, as well as Peggy’s nephew, Ken Sabian, who Chuck and Peggy raised together. The family invites friends to join them for a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM, on Friday, September 7th at Cross Roads Church, 707 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charles Spoor to Willapa Harbor Helping Hands at P.O.
